First Power-blasts of South East Winds Heralds the Start of 2013 / 2014 Kite Season

Over the past three days the winds have blown consistently from the south east and reached speeds of averages between 20 and 25 knots each day with gusts of up 35 knots. This is the beginning of the kite season in Cape Town which will last from this month until around the end of March 2014.
Despite the fairly cloudy, slightly chilly and choppy conditions, kites were taken out of storage, or new models brought down from the shop floors for testing out. Here are some pics.
Kitebeach towards the mountain. The tablecloth on the mountain is a sure sign of pumping wind.

Kites traverse the area where the Seli 1 used to be. It projections above the water have finally been destroyed by the waves.

Kiters arrive and set up. The sand blur around the kites is an indication of the wind strength.

Big Bay. The waves a bit larger and more consistent due to the bay being predominantly enclosed on 2 sides by rocks.
